Something terrible happened to our wonderful old Collie Buddy at this clinic. He went in for a checkup because he was distressed with constipation. They kept him overnight and put him on a drip to hydrate him. When we arrived in the morning, we could hear the poor dog crying in the back room and then they brought him in and showed us an xray. The vet said he had been on a drip and that he had only urinated once, but not again and that he had an extended bladder The xray seemed to show that his entire abdominal cavity was filled with fluid. When I asked why they had not put in a catheter, the vet said it was too complicated.
Later in the day I took poor Buddy to another veterinary clinic and they drained the fluid. They told me that they had extracted 3 litres (6 pints) of clear fluid and that more was still coming out. I’m not clear on whether Buddy had a burst bladder, but he had to be put to sleep immediately because he was so ill.
Buddy was the joy in our lives and now he is gone.
I fail to understand why the clinic had given him SO much fluid intravenously and not put in a catheter, if he had not been urinating? The vet told us he was probably licking up the urination because he wanted to be clean. I fail to understand how he could have licked up six pints!!
I would highly cautious of this clinic if you want your pet to come out alive!
The bill was 200 Euro for overnight stay, xray and antibiotics which we could never administer because Buddy died later in the day.
The bill for the second vet was 350 Euro for care, draining the fluid from the poor dogs body, cremation and a little coffin with the name BUddy on top!
